Core-collapse Supernova Mechanism -importance of Rotation
نویسندگان
چکیده
An attempt is made to assess the significance of rotation in the core-collapse supernova phenomenon, from both observational and theoretical point of view. The data on supernovae particularly indicative of the role of rotation in the collapse-triggered explosion is emphasized. The problem of including the rotation of presupernova core into the supernova theory is considered. A two-dimensional classification scheme of core-collapse su-pernovae is proposed which unifies " classical " supernovae of type Ib/c and type II, " hypernovae " and some GRB events.

We review some of the reasons for believing that the generic core-collapse supernova is neutrino-driven, not MHD-jet driven. We include a discussion of the possible role of rotation in supernova blast energetics and morphology, and speculate on the origin of Cas A's and SN1987A's ejecta fields. Two " explosive " phenomena may be associated with most core collapses, the neutrino-driven su-pernov...
متن کاملCore-Collapse Simulations of Rotating Stars
We present the results from a series of two-dimensional core-collapse simulations using a rotating progenitor star. We find that the convection in these simulations is less vigorous because a) rotation weakens the core bounce which seeds the neutrino-driven convection and b) the angular momentum profile in the rotating core stabilizes against convection. The limited convection leads to explosio...
متن کاملTopics in Core-Collapse Supernova Theory
There are many interesting topics at the intersection of physics and astrophysics we call Supernova Theory. A small subset of them include the origin of pulsar kicks, gravitational radiation signatures of core bounce, and the possible roles of neutrinos and rotation in the mechanism of explosion. In this brief communication we summarize various recent ideas and calculations that bear on these t...
متن کاملToward a Standard Model of Core Collapse Supernovae
Beginning with the first numerical simulations conducted by Colgate and White[1], three decades of supernova modeling have established a basic supernova paradigm. The supernova shock wave—formed when the iron core of a massive star collapses gravitationally and rebounds as the core matter exceeds nuclear densities and becomes incompressible—stalls in the iron core as a result of enervating loss...
متن کاملViscosity & Rotation in Core-collapse Supernovae
We construct models of core-collapse supernovae in one spatial dimension, including rotation, angular momentum transport, and viscous dissipation employing an α-prescription. We compare the evolution of a fiducial 11 M⊙ non-rotating progenitor with its evolution including a wide range of imposed initial rotation profiles (1.25<P0 < 8 s, where P0 is the initial, approximately solid-body, rotatio...
